About Dr. Hines

Dr. Hines was born in Parris Island, South Carolina (the Marine base) and attended public school in Starkville, Mississippi, graduating with honors in the top 5 of his high school class. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry at Mississippi State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Hines attended medical school at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida, graduating in the top 10 of the class. He then went on to a straight surgical internship at Duke University Hospital, followed by a residency in general surgery at the University of Utah (five years) graduating board eligible in general surgery. This was followed by a Plastic Surgery residency (fellowship) with primary attention focused on cosmetic surgery as well as reconstructive surgery.

During the general surgery residency, the U.S. Navy intervened and Dr. Hines served 2 1/2 years with the initial six months at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute at Pensacola, Florida, with an education geared toward flight surgery school and subsequently served two years as a flight surgeon at the Marine Corp Air Station in Yuma, Arizona.

Dr. Hines is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Active hospital affiliations in the Salt Lake City area have included Cottonwood Hospital, HealthSouth Salt Lake Surgical Center, Alta View Hospital, St. Marks Surgical Center, Cottonwood Hospital and Cottonwood Surgical Center. He currently holds a medical license in Utah with the appropriate Federal DEA licenses, etc.

During Dr. Hines's education he has been involved in several research projects, one of these at the Mayo Clinic, which is the culmination of a fellowship in physiology during the summer months of his medical school education. His name is associated with several publications in physiology as well as surgery. Dr. Hines received several honorary scholarships and awards based on academic excellence. These included scholarships both in medical school and college education.

He is currently a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Utah State Plastic Surgery Society, the Utah State Medical Association, he is A Fellow of the "American College of Surgery" and is a member of the Salt Lake Surgical Society and the Salt Lake County Surgical Society. He has served as a member of the House of Delegates to the Utah State Medical Association, representing both St. Marks Hospital in the past and the Utah State Plastic Surgery Society. He served as Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St. Marks Hospital in the early 1980's. He was also Treasurer of the Salt Lake Surgical Society in 1983. He currently is President of the Medical Executive Committee at the HealthSouth Salt Lake Surgical Center, where he also serves as Credentials Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Division. He is the immediate past-president of the Utah State Plastic Surgical Society, having served as it's president both in the year 2000 and was re-elected for the year 2001.

His practice has been and currently still is, primarily associated with cosmetic surgery of the face, trunk and where applicable, extremities. Dr. Hines's most common surgical procedures involve breast augmentation, ultrasound assisted liposuction and traditional body contouring with liposuction, using the most advanced tumescent techniques etc. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) facelift, as well as rhinoplasty and otoplasty are also frequently performed by Dr. Hines. Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is also one of the more common surgical procedures performed by Dr. Hines. Most of the operations are done as an outpatient, going home the day of surgery for follow up the next morning (the usual case).

Continuing medical education is of paramount importance in Dr. Hines's practice and he currently attends the yearly meetings of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Hines, as well as Dr. Hines office staff are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to answer questions, make appointments and to serve as experts in the field of cosmetic and plastic surgery.

Dr. Hines has ben recognized nationally for his excellence in this field and has appeared several times on the Montel Williams Show as a national expert in cosmetic surgery. He is also well known to the local television stations and has been on Channel 2, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Channel 13 on several occasions during the last several years.
